DOT Compliance Manager

Your Opportunity

Stantec is looking to add an experienced DOT Compliance Manager to join its fleet management team.

The DOT Compliance Manager will work directly with the fleet department to ensure that the company maintains compliance with all Federal and State regulations required for Stantec’s Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMV).

They will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of development, implementation, and management of the company DOT Compliance Programs, including, but is not limited to, CMV files, DOT Driver Qualification file, DOT Drug and Alcohol Programs, Vehicle Inspections, Hours of Service, and Permits.

The DOT Compliance manager will provide training, instruction and guidance in areas related to DOT Compliance.

The DOT Compliance manager must have strong organizational and communication skills to be able to communicate effectively at all levels.

In addition, the DOT Compliance Manager will work closely with Stantec’s HSSE team to help oversee serious crash investigations and related record keeping.

Key Responsibilities

  • Train new drivers to comply with DOT regulations, company policies, safety precautions, industry requirements, and company procedures.
  • Ensure safety and federally administered compliance regulations are enforced for equipment, vehicles, and drivers.
  • Perform audits of ELD compliance and accuracy of driver logs and conduct appropriate follow-up.
  • Responsible for recordkeeping and maintaining required files for Stantec.
  • Conduct DOT compliance course for drivers as required by the company.
  • Ensure all trucks are registered, tagged, titled, and properly maintained
  • Train all drivers on use of ELD and ensure their compliance
  • Knowledge of multi-state IFTA filing and compliance
  • Create sound internal controls and monitor adherence to them
  • Proactively audit processes, practices and documents to identify weaknesses
  • Evaluate business activities (e.g.

    investments) to assess compliance risk

  • Collaborate with external auditors and HR when needed
  • Set plans to manage a crisis or compliance violation
  • Address employee concerns or questions on legal compliance
  • Fleet management


Capabilities and Credentials

  • Proven experience as a Compliance Manager
  • Ability to travel as needed (up to 50%)
  • Experience with regulatory agencies (DOT, FMCSA, etc.) required
  • CDL-A License preferred
  • FMCSA Compliance Training Certificates required
  • Demonstrated ability in planning and leading multiple projects at once
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Integrity and professional ethics
  • Attention to detail
  • Guidance/policy document development

Education and Experience

  • Education: Bachelors (preferred) or equivalent experience in lieu of degree
  • 5 years’ experience in DOT compliance management required
