Primary Assistant Teacher

This is a Full-time position in Lexington, KY posted November 28, 2021.

Lexington Friends Preschool (LFP) is a nonprofit Montessori program located in the Charlotte/Price neighborhood providing care to students ages fourteen months to six years old.

We place emphasis on our nature-based programming, believing every child should have unstructured time outdoors daily, in all weather.

LFP is looking for a qualified individual to fill the role of Assistant Teacher in our primary environment (student ages three to six years old), Monday through Friday, 7:45-3:45.

Assistant Teachers are responsible for supporting the Lead Teacher in implementing the planned curriculum for the day, and in the general supervision and management of the classroom to provide a safe, caring, environment.

This is an hourly position, with a starting rate of $16/hr.

Applicants must:
Be 18 years or older

Have a high school diploma, or GED (college preferred)

Have experience working with young children (preferably 2+ years)

Be kind, respectful, reliable, punctual, nurturing, and be a team player

Be familiar with, or willing to learn about, Montessori philosophy and positive discipline, as well as how to apply them in the classroom

Be willing to spend extended periods of time in nature, in all weather conditions

Be able to lift up to 45 lbs.

Be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and able to provide vaccination record

Have a clear criminal background check, negative TB Skin Test, and be willing to maintain all necessary certifications for early childhood education in the state of Kentucky

Duties include:
Helping to prepare the classroom before students arrive (environment is clean, orderly, and safe; activities prepped; art materials and classroom supplies fully stocked)

Assisting with learning activities as directed by the Lead Teacher

Supporting children’s social, emotional, and intellectual growth in all interactions

Assisting in the supervision/support of children in the classroom, on the playground, and in the restroom

Completing housekeeping tasks associated with the efficient running of the school (ex: laundry, dishes, cleaning and sanitizing materials, tidying the playground, etc.)

COVID-19 considerations:
All adults working in the preschool must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19, and must wear a mask while indoors.
