Qualifications

JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE
Provides patients with direct nursing care based on the nursing process and individual patient assessment needs.

Provide families of patients with emotional support, information and guidance in treating the identified patient.

Educate patients and families in areas of health and illness that maintain optimum levels of physical and emotional functioning.

ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1.

Assumes responsibility for acquiring knowledge and skills necessary for patient care in the identified practice setting.
2.

Organizes and prioritizes patient care duties as assigned, demonstrating independent functions and selfdirection.
3.

Performs assessment and analyzes patient problems and conditions using critical decision making to determine need for standard, urgent or emergent interventions.
4.

Administers medications according to organizational policies and procedures, regulatory requirements and acceptable standards of practice.
5.

Documents assessments and interventions in accordance with hospital policy and standards of care.
6.

Addresses patient phone calls by the end of the day with physician direction.
7.

Performs all aspects of patient care in and environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors.

Protects the patient in the event of a medical/healthcare error.
8.

Implements and age appropriate care in conjunction with the health care team per scope of services.

Identifies the learning needs of the patient and or caregivers while assessing measure to meet those needs.

Incorporates patient individual, social, emotional, developmental, spiritual and cultural needs into the care planning and teaching process.
9.

Safely utilizes all equipment in required role, reports defective equipment, trouble shoots when needed.
10.

Assists in collection of monthly quality audits, inventory of sample drugs and revision of patient teaching sheets and clinic policy and procedures.
11.

Practices patient experience best practices of AIDET, use of pain scale guide, and other best practices required by facility.
12.

Performs other duties as assigned my management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education for Staff Job Levels
– Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
Required Licensure and Certifications RN license in the State of Kentucky; BLS and ACLS required.

BSN preferred.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
– Must have critical thinking skills and ability to assess changes in patient condition and take appropriate action.

Adequate knowledge of current nursing practice and theory.

Demonstrate ability to perform technical skills according to area of assignment.

Computer management skills, and adequate conversational English.
PREFERRED Qualifications Pain Management experience of one to two years.
