Market VP Strategic Development

Job Summary / Purpose

Provides executive leadership in the administration, direction and coordination of development of new service, programs and strategic initiatives for the Kentucky Market.

Responsible for development of strategic business initiatives and assisting CEO in strategic development and deployment.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

• Supports an agile, seamless and entrepreneurial health system to attract other health care organizations/providers to join CHI Saint Joseph Health and improve the health of communities served.

• Grows ministries and is the partner of choice with physicians and others.

• Serves as staff to the Strategic Planning committee of the Board.

• Supports CEO, division and national teams on all transactions, acquisitions and divestitures

• Considers capital allocation within the context of the strategic plan.

• Seeks opportunities for expansion of outreach, ambulatory, outpatient and other services to keep up with changes in healthcare with a focus on time to market and service line development.

• Develops services and network in light of emerging of state-wide health networks envisioned by other hospital systems.

• Enhances company’s image and expands the awareness of CHI Saint Joseph Health’s capabilities throughout Kentucky.

• Expands the Services and capabilities of each current entity to serve the communities and strengthen the ministry through the development of a statewide network of providers.

• Coordinates the strategic planning process and development of business plans.

• Collaborates on communication, public relations, marketing and advertising strategies.

• Coordinates all documents required by CHI for capital and Facilities funding.

• Oversees the development and implementation of master facility plans.

• Other duties as assigned.


• Minimum of 10 years’ executive level experience in a comparably complex tertiary care organization.

• Ability to work with diverse publics in a collaborative and effective manner.

• Sound judgment based on knowledge and understanding of federal, state and local regulations governing hospital, physician and general healthcare operations.

• Good negotiating, written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to coordinate and lead change resulting from strategic direction.

• Ability to manage complex relationships that cross a variety of boundaries – customers, leaders, staff subordinates, physicians, and other key stakeholders.

• Ability to manage the complexity of relationships by being acutely aware of various audiences, special interests and needs, and by addressing potential conflicts early.

• Must be able to maintain priorities and make tough decisions rather than trying to please everyone.

• Ability to anticipate problems and be proactive in dealing with them before they blow up.

• Ability to scan the horizon for new developments.

• Understanding of how the competition is using the function to gain competitive advantage.

• Possession of a vision that the functional role must change and the courage to change it.

• Advanced interpersonal skills, listening skills and the ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) to provide leadership for staff.
