  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and bank information systems.
  • Extensive background in financial institution operating policies and procedures and banking regulations including superior understanding of Bank Secrecy Act and related regulations.
  • Knowledgeable of the bank’s products, services, customers and entities, and geographic locations, and the potential money laundering and terrorist financing risks associated with those activities.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in handling sensitive documents or other confidential information.
  • Ability to work with a team and members of other departments of known concepts.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing in order to convey information tactfully and effectively to all levels of employees and customers.

What you can expect of this opportunity

The Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) Officer is responsible for coordinating the development, implementation and administration of all aspects of the bank-wide Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) Compliance Program.  This position monitors compliance with state and federal Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), USA PATRIOT Act, Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and OFAC laws and regulations.

To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.

  • Ensure the bank’s compliance with BSA and related laws’ policies and procedures, guidelines, tracking and application forms, for currency transaction reporting, suspicious activity reporting, monetary instruments sold for cash, exemption of customers, USA Patriot Act and OFAC processes and ensure that they are updated when changes to laws are made.
  • Review all related polices for compliance to BSA/AML/OFAC/USA Patriot Act laws and regulations and ensure that they are updated when changes to laws are made.
  • Review suspicious accounts detected by the use of compiled reports and distribute to officers for internal reviews.
  • Review internal bank accounts for kiting and currency records and distribute to officers for internal reviews.
  • Ensure that Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs) and Suspicious Activity Report (SARs) are completed accurately and timely filed with the proper agencies.
  • Report to the Board of Directors any significant deficiencies to the BSA program on an as needed basis and report on the monthly Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) filing.
  • Prepare annual reports for the Board of Directors and regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain a BSA compliance program and provide ongoing education and training on the bank’s BSA/AML/CIP policies and procedures.
  • Maintain communication with regulators, external auditors, internal auditors and independent monitoring functions.
  • Respond to BSA related questions, issues and concerns from all department managers, bank officers and employees.
  • Complete all mandatory compliance-related training within required deadlines.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
