ENRA NERC Spec (Oversight)

This is a Contract position in Lexington, KY posted May 7, 2022.

Job Description: This position is within the Enterprise NERC Reliability Assurance (ENRA) team at AEP, which provides central coordination and decision-making authority for NERC compliance obligations across the enterprise.

This position may include a number of the following responsibilities: leading cross business-unit teams, executing process improvements, root cause and incident analysis, providing independent oversight and technical support to ensure the adequacy of controls and associated evidence, project management, engagement and outreach, risk management, and metrics development.

Additional responsibilities include, staying current on changing NERC standards and rules, developing company-wide positions with internal stakeholders, and advocating those positions externally as appropriate.

The position requires expert-level knowledge and engagement within the ever-evolving NERC reliability and security regulatory environment.

This position resides in ENRA within one of the following areas: Oversight Compliance Management Strategic Initiatives Assurance Oversight is responsible for supporting the consistent application of reliability assurance activities and industry best practices across all AEP Business Units.

Oversight includes evaluation of all aspects of the reliability assurance program.

Control Management
– Organize the periodic assessments of the design and operational effectiveness of reliability and compliance internal controls.

Program Metrics – Produce reports of quantitative data to assess health of reliability assurance program.

Assist in the development of new metrics and reports.

Communicate reports to reliability assurance program stakeholders.

Compliance Obligation Determination – Participate in the development and maintenance of enterprise-wide interpretations of obligations within the NERC and Regional Standards.

These duties require a basic knowledge of the Standards and at times an ability to communicate with key staff at NERC and/or the Regions to add clarity regarding what is really required to demonstrate compliance.

Self-Monitoring – Support the periodic assessments of compliance related materials to determine readiness for external compliance audits and provide reasonable assurance of compliance status.

Requirements Education Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics, communications, computer science, business, or related field of study; or Associate’s degree in one of the aforementioned fields and two (2) years of relevant work experience.

Experience In addition to any experience required above, three (3) years of experience in the electric utility, or similarly regulated industry.

Additional Information Master’s Degree is desirable.

Certification/Licensure is preferred.

Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and ability to initiate solutions to complex technical issues.

Demonstrate ability to effectively and efficiently develop functional relationships on all levels as well as external partnerships with various regulatory agencies/industry organizations.

Proficient in oral and written communication skills, including the ability to articulate strategy and provide guidance to management and witnesses on case as required.

Proficient in navigating and creating spreadsheets is required.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate deadlines to enable the organization to not miss deadlines.
