Job Purpose: This positions primary purpose is to ensure the long term financial stability of the credit union. It is responsible for the strategic direction and oversight of the accounting, finance, deposit and lending operations of the credit union. The incumbent will create and execute long range strategies to ensure healthy and balanced growth of the credit union.

Essential Job Results:

JOB SPECIFIC RESULTS

  1. Assumes responsibility for all processes related to the accounting department, including accounting control, cash management, invoice processing, cash position, Federal Reserve transactions, general ledger, expense accounting, investments and securities. Ensure that all Accounting processes are conducted according to GAAP.
  2. Oversee and direct Treasury, audit, tax, accounting, purchasing, real estate and insurance activities.
  3. Responsible for monitoring and responding to interest rate, credit and lending portfolio risks and establishing appropriate concentration limits in order to maintain an appropriate Asset/Liability mix.
  4. Provide monthly reports to the Senior Staff and Board related to Asset/Liability Management and investments.
  5. Establish, monitor compliance with and ensure that all policies related to finance, accounting, lending and deposit operations are current and aligned with all applicable regulations and laws.
  6. Work with all major areas of the credit union to establish budget, revenue, expense and capital expenditure plans and monitor progress toward established goals. Ensure reconciliation of all assigned general ledger accounts.
  7. Review and approve all expenses related to area in a timely fashion. Review contracts with vendors for favorable terms and ensure compliance with terms and conditions.
  8. Oversee the creation and analysis of statistical and financial reporting that provides insight on rates, terms, income and expense trends, performance, risks, and opportunities for the credit union and may be used for effective decision making.
  9. Monitor the profitability and utilization of credit union products and services to identify those with positive ROI. Make recommendations on the continuation or discontinuation of products and services that do or do not meet the needs of the member while enhancing the financial results of the credit union.
  10. Oversee the investment portfolio of the credit union to achieve above average earnings and the proper utilization of borrowing capacity for managing liquidity.
  11. Oversee the lending operations to ensure proper underwriting practices and processes are implemented and that members lending needs are met in a compliant manner. Oversee the Asset Recovery department to ensure all collections activities are compliant.
  12. Responsible for overseeing the maintenance and support of the credit unions digital banking platform and all related activities.
  13. Remains current on accounting conditions that may affect the credit union.
  14. Develop effective working relationships with regulatory agencies and auditors.

  5. Maintains department policies and procedures by assessing practices, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and recommending changes to the supervisor.
  6. Maintains operations by initiating, recommending, coordinating and enforcing operational and personnel policies and procedures; and coordinating, developing and maintaining comprehensive procedures for each position in the operational area of responsibility.
  7. Manages diversity in the workplace by understanding, supporting and practicing equal employment opportunity regulations and participating in all mandatory training regarding this and related topics.

GENERAL STAFF RESULTS

  1. Maintains member and employee confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential and sharing on a business-related as-needed basis only.

  4. Complies with federal, state and local regulations and legal requirements by enforcing and adhering to requirements.
  5. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by maintaining an awareness of competitors rates and terms, industry trends and technology; attending staff meetings; identifying opportunities to attend seminars that enhance skills and maintain knowledge of new products that could assist in improving operational effectiveness; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; and participating in professional societies.
  6. Contributes to a team effort by accomplishing corporate and individual goals and other related results as needed.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Ten to fifteen years of similar or related experience, including financial data processing systems. Experience should show a progression in responsibility and supervision.
  • Minimum of five years supervising high performing teams.
  • Advanced degree (Masters or above) with a focus in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Experience in GAAP and all State and Federal regulations, including those that have a direct impact on financial institutions.
  • Ability to effectively use office technology.
  • Ability and willingness to work as part of an established Senior Management team.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to actively listen, collaborate, and foster trust and cooperation. Ability to create high quality correspondence, policies and procedures using proper sentence structure, punctuation, grammar and spelling.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments simultaneously and meet required deadlines.
  • Ability to foster positive relations with volunteers, community leaders, business leaders and internal managers.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions and decimals with American currency, and to apply these concepts to practical solutions.
