Acupuncturist (Advanced)

This is a Full-time position in Lexington, KY posted June 18, 2021.

The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service (PM&RS) Acupuncturist is a state licensed provider who works as part of an interdisciplinary team providing care and services in the outpatient, inpatient, and community living center settings.

The PM&RS Acupuncturist provides care at the Lexington VA Healthcare System.

( “In addition to observance of federal, national, and local regulatory policy, and accreditation requirements governing VA Complementary and Integrative Medicine, and applicable state licensure in Acupuncture, this position encompasses the following responsibilities: Acupuncturists use various acupuncture therapies, techniques, and equipment to evaluate, assess, and treat patients in a direct-care setting including but not limited to diagnostic techniques such as observation, listening, palpation, and physiognomy to implement treatment plan: Participation in the creation of new programs or interventions that may include group acupuncture, combining acupuncture with other interventions, and expansion of acupuncture care into new populations or settings.

Perform stimulation to acupuncture points and channels using needles, moxibustion, cupping, thermal methods, magnets, electronic wave therapy, lasers.

Perform manual stimulation, including stimulation by an instrument or mechanical device that does not pierce the skin, massage, acupressure, reflexology, Shiatsu and tui nia.

Provide lifestyle, behavioral, supportive, educational, and stress counseling to patients.

Provide recommendations for auxiliary techniques to enhance the effects of treatment.

Utilize standard medical evaluation procedures and East Asian Medicine evaluation to formulate a differential diagnosis to develop an acupuncture treatment plan.

Consistently communicates and treats customers (patients, visitors, volunteers, and all Medical Center staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.

He/she serves as an advisor to leadership on issues pertaining to acupuncture.

Participates in teaching principles of acupuncture to staff, students, and residents including journal clubs, grand rounds, and in-service trainings.

Serves as the leader of an interdisciplinary team to provide evaluation, monitoring, planning, and coordination of care of patients for acupuncture services.
