Mechanical Design Engineer

Link-Belt Cranes

This is a Full-time position in Lexington, KY posted November 30, 2021.

Job Description Summary
Design and/or direct the design of mechanisms, structures, and controls for products to meet Link-Belt goals of Safety, Quality, Cost and Delivery.
Essential Job Functions
  1. Investigate and develop new cost-effective design concepts utilizing internal and competitive data
  2. Prepare and check complex calculations for analysis of loads, speeds, pressures, deflections, stresses, tolerances, safety factors or other information limiting or governing the performance and/or design of a new or existing product
  3. Prepare and check detail and assembly drawings for accuracy, proper fit, necessary dimensions and conformance to Link-Belt Design Policies
  4. Create layouts of new designs or revisions to existing designs
  5. Interact with suppliers to obtain component information and establish component specifications
  6. Prepare, check and/or revise engineering orders and bills of materials per Link-Belt Design policies.
  7. Calculate weights and center of gravities for components and assemblies
  8. Investigate and design solutions for “sales special” requests as needed
  9. Investigate field service issues and make recommendations for corrections
  10. Support prototype assembly process and assist in performance or structural testing of new designs as needed
  11. Support manufacturing areas as needed during assembly, welding, and machining processes.
  12. Resolve manufacturing issues identified by production engineering material sourcing, welders and assemblers
  13. Coordinate the work of other personnel to complete designs and product systems
  14. Prepare project time estimate and coordinate schedule attainment in conjunction with overall product timeline

Job Requirements:

Four (4) year college degree
Program of Study
BS in an engineering discipline or similar four year degree
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ of proven design experience in the crane industry or five (5) years’ in the heavy equipment industry, preferred
