Title: Programmer

Department: Information Technology

Reports to: Director of IT Core System & Analytics

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Job Grade: 12

Job Purpose: Supports the credit union’s core system and other key databases and applications. Provides service to the Credit Union by encoding, testing, debugging and documenting programs, as well as assisting IT staff in other projects and providing end user support as needed.

Essential Job Results:

JOB SPECIFIC RESULTS

1. Programming

a. Works with Credit Union staff, management and vendors to identify programming needs.

b. Develops, encodes, tests and formats credit union reports and forms as requested by management or as needed by end users.

c. Optimizes operational efficiency by making improvements to existing systems through the automation of internal processes.

d. Communicates with employees and vendors concerning programming changes and application development.

e. Serves as a Credit Union contact for projects requiring programming changes.

f. Verifies with staff that requested changes are functioning as desired.

2. End User Help Desk

a. Provides support to end users on a variety of questions or problems via telephone calls, email and the helpdesk ticketing system.

b. Serves as the first point of contact for end users seeking technical assistance

related to system reports and forms.

c. Documents, tracks progress and monitors problems to ensure a timely resolution.

d. Directs issues with incoming requests to IT Management for resolution.

e. Maintains accurate records by documenting system changes, revisions, and problem resolutions. This activity may include but is not limited to:

i. Recording issues, problems, and their resolution in the help desk ticketing system.

ii. Follow-up and update end user status and information.

iii. Pass on any feedback or suggestions by end users to the appropriate internal teams.

iv. Identify and suggest possible improvements on procedures.

3. IT Projects

a. Assists other IT staff in other projects as needed.

GENERAL STAFF RESULTS

  1. Maintains member and employee confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential and sharing on a business-related as-needed basis only.
  2. Engages in problem resolution by clarifying the member’s and/or employee’s complaint; determining the cause of the problem; selecting and explaining the best solution to solve the problem; expediting correction or adjustment; following up to ensure resolution; and keeping the supervisor informed of problems and solutions.

  1. Complies with UKFCU policies and procedures by enforcing and adhering to internal UKFCU procedures and board-established policies.
  2. Complies with federal, state and local regulations and legal requirements by enforcing and adhering to requirements.
  3. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by maintaining an awareness of competitors’ rates and terms, industry trends and technology; attending staff meetings; identifying opportunities to attend seminars that enhance skills and maintain knowledge of new products that could assist in improving operational effectiveness; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; and participating in professional societies.
  4. Contributes to a team effort by accomplishing corporate and individual goals and other related results as needed.

Job Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Two to five years of similar or related experience in an IT environment.
  • Two year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school or equivalent.
  • Existing knowledge of Web Development/HTML preferred
  • Existing knowledge of Java Script preferred
  • Ability to communicate with others one-on-one, fielding questions.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions while dealing with a standardized set of concrete variables.
  • Ability to understand database logic and layouts.
  • Ability to write reports, correspondence and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently but is also a team player.
  • Previous financial institution experience preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee will be required to work mostly indoors in a climate controlled office setting; infrequently however, the employee will be working in a Datacenter that is fan cooled to low temperatures. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate except when in the Datacenter or Server Rooms where the noise level can be high.
