Computer Systems Engineer


This is a Full-time position in Lexington, KY posted June 22, 2021.


Linux Applications Engineer

About the Role: We are looking for a highly motivated and talented individual with experience working on open source commercial software systems. In this role you will be providing operational support for ISP, customer-facing products, and services, such as DNS, DHCP, Load Balancers and various related applications. The vast majority of our applications run on Linux servers, and the successful candidate must have a solid foundation of working from the command line and writing utility scripts on Linux systems. Understanding distributed systems and the ability to troubleshoot the underlying networking and communication between those systems will be expected. As a key member of the team, you will contribute to multiple projects of upgrading and patching existing systems, migrations and integrations of systems, troubleshooting efforts, attending meetings, and contributing to the team’s on call rotation and responding to certain operational issues off hours. The successful candidate must also possess the communication skills to collaborate with multiple teams, document work, provide updates to leadership, and work closely with other team members.

What You’ll Do:

  • Maintain, support, and troubleshoot enterprise ISP applications
  • Effectively manage and deliver solutions for multiple projects
  • Write utility scripts for enhancing systems support abilities
  • Collaborate with various teams and stakeholders to achieve shared objectives  
  • Communicate and contribute within the team to leverage collective talent
  • Provide feedback and guidance on best practices for optimum service availability
  • Continue to develop technical skills and grow as a contributor to the team
  • Adapt and change as needed in a growing and evolving corporate environment

 Do You Have?  

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with Linux Administration
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with Open Source software
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience scripting with Python, Perl, or Java
  • Strong operational bearing and ability to respond quickly to outages
  • Working knowledge of Database Design, SQL, and Database Communication
  • Working knowledge of DNS Administration
  • Understanding of Distributed Systems and Network Structures
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • API development experience with technologies such as SOAP, REST/JSON, and orchestration tools a plus
  • Familiarity with Microservices, dynamic management, and container technologies (such as Docker, Kubernettes, and Rancher)
  • Participation in the Open Source community is a plus
  • Knowledge of Telecommunications and Service Provider Industry
  • Self-starter with can-do attitude
