Denham-Blythe: Structural Engineering Designer


This is a Full-time position in Lexington, KY posted November 20, 2021.

Founded in 1976, Denham-Blythe has completed over 10,000 projects to date, with 90% of our projects with repeat clients.The Structural Designer isprimarily concerned with designing and constructing buildings and structures that are safe and capable of withstanding the elements to which they will be exposed, as well as improving the structural integrity of existing buildings.Essential FunctionsDesigns structures by calculating the loads and stresses the construction will have to safely withstand.Factors in the different qualities and strengths delivered by a range of building materials, and understands how to incorporate support beams, columns and foundations.Investigates and surveys build sites to determine the suitability of the proposed location for the requirements of the upcoming project.Coordinates and consults with other members of their projects, including engineers and architects.Assists government bodies in their inspections relating to the project.Solves technical problems and provides advice.Prepares reports, designs and drawings.Obtains planning and/or building regulations approval.Monitors and inspects work undertaken by contractors.Inspects properties to check conditions/foundations.Other duties as assigned.SkillsStrong grasp of physics and three-dimensional conceptual skillsAbility to apply principles of mechanics, mathematics and physics to construct safe, sustainable buildingsCreative problem-solving skillsAbility to work with other members of the design teamGood communication skills both written and oralExcellent mathematical, IT, and analytical skillsExcellent attention to detailProject and budget management skillsGood working knowledge of construction methods, materials, and legal regulationsKnowledge of CAD, Revit, and RAMEducation and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Civil EngineeringMinimum of 3 5 years’ experience in Structural DesigerOther RequirementsHigh School Diploma or EquivalentMust be willing to submit to a Drug Screen and Background CheckMust be eligible for work in the United States.
